My Journey from Ballerina to Food Creator
Hello!
My name is Jessie-Sierra Ross; welcome to my cooking & home entertaining blog! I am a strong believer in from-scratch cooking, using quality ingredients, and step-by-step photographic directions. As a self-taught cook (and attentive hostess), I know that detailed text and images are a key to bringing out your best. I want to make you feel confident in the kitchen, no matter your level of cooking experience, by arming you with the right tools & techniques!
From the Stage to the Kitchen…
I’m a native Bostonian, turned Berkshire-area mum to three little boys. A former professional ballerina and ballet coach, my fast-paced urban life gave way to the farm-to-table landscape of Western Massachusetts.
I had always loved to cook, but it wasn’t until I found myself with lots of free time – and a hungry family – that it became a new passion.
I began this blog as an outlet. A stir-crazy mama hearing nothing but baby-talk all day created a pent-up urge to communicate with grown-ups. I’ve always loved to cook (and write… and teach…and talk!). After a particularly successful Thanksgiving dinner party, I decided that instead of emailing requested recipes to the guests, I’d post them on the internet. ‘Straight to the Hips, Baby’ was born around that dinner table, and we haven’t looked back since!
… to the TV Set and Writing Cookbooks!
What started off as a small cooking adventure has morphed into nationally televised cooking segments on NBC, PBS, and CBS affiliates, as well as featured articles, podcasts, and brand collaborations.
My latest venture? My very first home entertaining & cookbook, Seasons Around the Table.
It’s About the Joys of Spending Time with Family
I have been lucky enough to share this adventure with my husband, who happens to be a talented photographer, capable cook, and excellent taste-tester. Between us, we have created a project to feed both of our creative appetites!
Still, at the end of the day, it boils down to just one thing:
Creating approachable food for every home cook.
