Cooking for friends, and cooking with friends are two of my favorite things to do, especially around the holidays! There is something so joyful about being in the kitchen with people you can share a laugh with; I always look forward to chatting the afternoon away with a wine glass in hand, stirring something good on the stove! This year is a bit different, and like most social situations over the last few months, the cook-a-thon has to go virtual! I’ve joined forces to celebrate the 2020 Holidays with several food blogger friends! We’ve teamed up to share our 10 Easy Holiday Appetizers!
The run down on some happy apps…
From savory to sweet, light to hearty, this holiday appetizer round up has it all! The key to any great gathering, whether big or small, is having plenty of delicious little nibbles and fun drinks on hand. I tend to make 3-4 types of appetizers for my holiday parties. I like the variety, and it helps keep my guests from noshing on the actual meal prep! I like to serve one hot app that’s a little savory, one cold app featuring vegetables or lean proteins, and then something slightly sweet. A little plate for every taste!
What cocktails or wines would work best?
You can’t go wrong with a champagne opener! A little bubbly always sets the mood! A delicious & juicy Riesling can also be quite nice to whet the appetite, or even an Amarone, which is a traditional Italian wine to drink during this season. I like to keep a few types of ales on hand as well, especially Canadian beers like Sleeman’s Honey Brown. For cocktails, which are my personal go-to choice, a Holiday Cherry Rosemary Gin Sour or Spiced Cranberry Punch, will compliment these amazing starter ideas! Cold apple cider, flavored seltzers, and mineral waters are also a must for those that don’t drink or are underage.
This year might be smaller, but I hope that making some of these selections from myself and my friends will keep that sense of celebration!
Happy Holidays!
